about
Belief Jerky – Jerky (Quechua: ch'arki) is meat that has been trimmed of fat, cut into strips, salted, and dried. This prevents spoilage.
Many attempts to preserve belief systems, on the other hand, have resulted in spoilage. Perhaps this is because the beliefs were not trimmed of excess fat, were not cut into strips, and were not thoroughly desiccated.
One of the many things I love about Ornette Coleman is the way in which he took recognizable musical clichés and by applying the cut-up technique (as popularized by the Dadaists, William Burroughs, and Brion Gysin) managed to evade putrefaction.
