about

A two-part composition about folkloric creatures that appears in numerous Finnish and Sámi folk tales. They can be described as semi-human earth spirits who usually live underground who share a reciprocal relationship with humans. However, they could also exhibit a dark side pestering people they did not like if for example a human lodge was erected above their abode. In older traditions, they were considered predominantly beneficent beings. The first part of utilizes chromatically enhanced melodic ideas in minor keys with the second part, in steady time, plunging into somewhat ominous jazz tinged moving harmonies.
