about

Inspired by rune poem 17 of the Kalevala, Väinämöinen continues in his quest to find the words needed to complete the building of his boat to journey to Pohjola (Heaven, upper realms) to take back the sampo (life giving mythical object/drum). After much thought he decides to confront the sleeping proto-shaman Antero Vipunen who has in death become a powerful forest. After chopping down the surrounding trees and vegetation, Väinämöinen is swallowed by an angry Vipunen and must use the suit made by the eternal smith Ilmarinen to construct a bellows and forge. While deep inside the cavernous earth and roots he uses the forge to create fire and heat protecting himself while demanding Vipunen give him the words he seeks. After a long and protracted battle Vipunen finally gives the words to the song sought after by Väinämöinen.
